Here is an update on the Arkansas Fiber Festival.
As we told you in August, we were having trouble filling our classes. We had a talk with the Hot Springs Convention Center and while they were willing to let us reschedule our event to sometime in 2016 without losing our deposit, the Embassy Suites Hotel would not allow it. The festival is canceled for this year and our future plans are unsure. At this time, we want to focus on getting refunds out as soon as possible.
If you have already registered for the event, thank you for your support. We will be processing refunds over the next few weeks. We ask you to be patient with us as this is a complicated process. Rest assured, if you were planning to attend our event in September you will receive a refund. If anyone is willing to forego refund of the $25 registration fee to help with our debts that would be appreciated. All money paid for classes will of course be reimbursed. Don’t forget, if you have booked a hotel for September, make sure to cancel. Also, if anyone would like to make a donation to help us out, you can simply click on the link to the right.
At this time, we would like everyone to request a refund using the following form.
This event was very costly to put on. Not only the thousands of dollars for the convention center, but the smaller costs like Constant Contact, our website hosting fees, banking fees, postage, etc. all add up. As some of you know, the Embassy Suites is still charging us $8,000 for last year’s event. However, our plan is to reimburse our registered attendees and vendors before we worry about the hotel.
You do not know how sad this makes us. Meeting up with all of you each year on the Mountain or in Hot Springs truly was one of the highlights of our year, and we will miss you. Once the dust settles, we will try to determine if there is any way we can go forward to restart the festival in the future.
The Arkansas Fiber Arts Board
To ease the pain of losing this fun weekend Bea and Jessica of Knittin on the Corner (Hot Springs) along with Claire from Knit Unto Others (Arkadelphia), as well as Robin of October House will be hosting "The Littlest Fiber Fest in Arkansas". Knittin on the Corner will be open on both Fri and Sat from 10:30-?? and Claire and Robin will be there too, with fiber goodies for you to purchase. Knit Unto Others will also be open in Arkadelphia. There will be some classes posted on the Arkansas Fiber Fest forum on Ravelry (finalized by the end of the month). We would love for you to spread the word!
If you are planning to stay in Hot Springs, please keep your reservations under the FiberFest block, as that will help defray some of the hotel expenses. Thank you so much!
